ABOUT CHITTORGARH Chittorgarh resounds with accounts of Rajputana's grit, pride, and energy. The versifiers of Rajasthan sing stories of fortitude and penance describing stories that are known to each kid and grown-up in the city. Chittorgarh is named after its most impressive structure, the Chittorgarh Fort which remains on a 180-meter high slope and is spread across 700 sections of land. Chittorgarh Fort has had a turbulent past. This bastion of the Rajputs has confronted vicious assaults thrice in its whole history. The first was in 1303 when the Sultan of Delhi, Ala-ud-noise Khilji, who was fascinated by Queen Padmini, propelled an assault to snatch her. Over two centuries later, in 1533, it was Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat, who caused tremendous devastation. After four decades, in 1568, Mughal Emperor Akbar assaulted and held onto the fortification.
