Kuldhara Village
Kuldhara is a deserted town in the Jaisalmer region of Rajasthan, India. Set up around the thirteenth century, it was at one time a prosperous town occupied by Paliwal Brahmins. It was surrendered by the mid-nineteenth century for obscure reasons, potentially due to waning water supply, or as a neighborhood legend claims, in view of mistreatment by the Jaisalmer State's priest Salim Singh. A recent report proposes that Kuldhara and other neighboring towns were deserted on account of seismic tremors. Over the years, Kuldhara procured notoriety as a spooky site, and the Government of Rajasthan chose to create it as a place of interest during the 2010s. Establishment The Kuldhara town was initially settled by Brahmins who had relocated from Pali to the Jaisalmer area. These vagrants starting from Pali were called Paliwals.
